A pin to share the recipe for a homemade eggnog latte.

This eggnog latte recipe is made using just two ingredients! By combining freshly brewed espresso and delicious eggnog you can enjoy a great holiday coffee drink in just a matter of minutes. Top with a sprinkling of nutmeg for an extra festive finish!

A clear glass mug filled with an eggnog latte garnished with grated nutmeg sits on a wooden tray.

If you miss the eggnog latte that Starbucks used to make during "Red Cup" season, boy are you going to love this copycat recipe! You’ll feel all sorts of holly and jolly after the first sip, no drive-thru trip required!

    Ingredients for this recipe

    • Eggnog – You can find it in the dairy aisle at most grocery stores during the holiday season. Personally, I love using my homemade boozy eggnog for a grown-up version!
    • Espresso – I make my lattes with a double shot of espresso from my Nespresso machine, but if you don’t have an espresso maker strongly brewed coffee will work too.
    • Nutmeg - Use a microplane and a whole nutmeg to get the freshest, richest flavor.

Making an Eggnog Latte at Home

This is just a brief overview, find more detailed instructions in the recipe card below!

    1. Make the espresso. Or strongly brewed coffee. Add it to a serving mug.
    2. Warm the eggnog. And then froth with a hand-held milk frother and pour on top of the espresso.
    3. Garnish with nutmeg. It’s that special spice that gives eggnog its signature flavor.
    Brew the espresso.
    Top with frothed eggnog.

    Frothing Eggnog

When I’m making a maple latte or a pumpkin spice latte, I love using the Aerocinno3 frother my Nespresso machine came with.

I’ve discovered through trial and error that eggnog does not froth well in these types of devices. Something about the sweeteners in the liquid makes it stick or burn to the bottom of them when heated.

I’ve found that warming the eggnog up in the microwave and using a handheld frother works best to get that thick, luxurious foam for a homemade latte.

Alternatively, you can warm the eggnog up on the stove and whisk it vigorously by hand. Or, if you have one of those ultra fancy manual espresso machines, you can use the steam wand and pitcher.

    Making a Latte Without Espresso

Trying to make a Starbucks-inspired drink at home but don’t have an espresso maker?

If you don’t have an espresso machine at home, I recommend using 3 ounces of very strongly brewed coffee so it doesn’t taste weak.

A clear glass mug filled with an eggnog latte garnished with grated nutmeg sits on a wooden tray.

In a drip maker – to brew an extra strong cup of coffee at home, I recommend 3 tablespoons of ground coffee per 6 ounces of water. This will get you about two servings of coffee to make two lattes.

Moka pot – A moka pot is a great option if you don’t have an espresso machine! It will brew a beautifully strong cup of coffee right on your stovetop. I recommend 2 tablespoons of ground coffee per 6 ounces of water for a strong moka brew.

    Iced Eggnog Latte

To make an iced version of an eggnog latte add ice, freshly brewed espresso, and chilled eggnog to a tall glass. Top with a sprinkle of freshly ground nutmeg and enjoy!

You could also use homemade cold brew coffee or cold brew coffee concentrate in place of the espresso if you don’t have an espresso machine!
