Two images in a collage. The bottom image shows A clear glass mug filled with apple cider jello shots in apple wedges. The top image shows a single wedge filled with the jello shot mixture.

Apple Cider Jello Shots combine the delicious, spiced flavor of mulled apple cider with warm cinnamon whiskey and zesty orange liqueur. They’re like little bites of autumn that pack a potent punch! Pour into cored apple halves and serve in wedges for a boozy bite that will be a hit with everyone (that's over 21)!

I’ve upped my shot serving game with this latest jello recipe . I’m not just putting the shot in a citrus rind (like with my lemon drop jello shots). This time, I made the entire thing edible! You’re welcome.

It’s easier than you think to make these stunners!

    Ingredients you’ll need

    Making Apple Cider Jello Shots

This is just a brief overview, find detailed instructions in the recipe card below!

Hollow out the apple halves and brush with lemon juice.
Bloom the gelatin in the alcohol.
Pour in hot apple cider and whisk to desolve.
Pour jello mixture into prepared apples and chill until set.

    Making a Stronger Jello Shot

I tend to go heavier on the alcohol in my jello shot recipes, but for these apple cider ones I pulled back a little bit, using only ⅔ cup of booze in total.

If you want a stronger shot, you can totally do ½ cup each of the cinnamon whiskey and orange liqueur. I tested the recipe multiple times both ways and the ⅔ cup of alcohol was the winner every time.

Alternatively, you could add ⅓ cup apple vodka to the ⅔ cup of booze for even more apple flavor. I use apple vodka in my apple cider martini and it’s oh-so-good! Whichever you choose, make sure you then only use 1 cup of apple cider for 2 cups of liquid total!

    Jello Shots in Apple Slices

I don’t want to brag, but I’ve gotten really good at finding fun ways to serve jello shots (hello, Aperol Spritz jello shots in orange segments).

When I was developing this recipe (and my caramel apple jello shots), I found that using a melon baller was a perfect way to get the insides removed quickly, easily, and without poking through the skin of the apple.

If you don’t have a melon baller you can use sharp spoon, like a grapefruit spoon, or a very sharp pairing knife and work very carefully.

Of course, you could also pour the jello shot mixture into a pan and cut into squares to serve. This is how I serve my red, white, and blue jello shots!

You could even use a silicone mold shaped like an apple or a cute fall themed one to get festive and fun shapes! That’s how I make my heart-shaped rosé jello shots for Valentine’s Day.

BRB, gotta go find another way to serve a jello shot.

Apple Cider Jello Shots (In Apple Wedges!)

Apple Cider Jello Shots combine the delicious, mulled flavor of real apple cider with warm cinnamon whiskey and orange liqueur. They’re like little bites of autumn that pack a potent punch! Pour into cored apple halves and serve in wedges for a boozy bite that will be a hit with everyone!

    Equipment

    • Melon Baller
    • Measuring Cups
    • Muffin Pan

    Ingredients

    • 3 medium-sized apples, such as Honeycrisp or Pink Lady
    • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (optional)
    • ⅓ cup cinnamon whiskey
    • ⅓ cup orange liqueur
    • 2 packages unflavored gelatin
    • 1 ⅓ cups mulled apple cider

    Instructions

    • Cut the apples in half lengthwise. Using a melon baller or sharp spoon, carefully remove the inside of the fruit, leaving only a small amount attached to the skin of the apple. This will create a cup for the jello shots!
    • If desired, brush each apple half with lemon juice to prevent browning. (This isn’t totally necessary, but it makes for wonderful presentation.)
    • Settle the apple halves into a muffin tin, ensuring they are even and won’t tip. Set aside.
    • Pour ⅓ cup cinnamon whiskey and ⅓ cup orange liqueur into a large measuring cup (if desired, for a stronger shot, use ½ cup of each alcohol) and sprinkle 2 packages of unflavored gelatin over the top. Set aside for 5 minutes to allow gelatin to “bloom.”
    • While the gelatin blooms, warm the mulled apple cider in a microwave safe cup or on the stove. (If using ½ cup of each alcohol, you will only need 1 cup of apple cider)
    • Pour the hot apple cider over the bloomed gelatin and stir until gelatin is dissolved, about two or three minutes.
    • Pour the jello mixture through a fine mesh sieve and into the apple cups (This amount is usually perfect for 3 medium-sized apples, but you may have extra depending on the size of your fruit. Pour excess into a lightly greased baking pan or jello shot cups).
    • Refrigerate the apple cider jello shots for at least 4 hours, or overnight. To serve, slice the apples into wedges.
    • Enjoy responsibly.
