The top image shows a small dish filled with oreo fluff and the bottom shows a large serving bowl full of fluff.

Light, creamy and full of chocolatey cookie crumbles, this Oreo Fluff is a “Midwestern salad” staple.

A small glass dish filled with Oreo fluff and garnished with a whole cookie.

Made with cream cheese and Cool Whip, the silky-smooth base gets flavored with vanilla before crushed Oreos are folded in. Every spoonful is a delicious bite of cookies and cream goodness!

Sure, you can get it from your local grocery store deli, but when it takes just 10 minutes to mix together and only requires five ingredients, why wouldn’t you make this delectable dessert salad at home?

This homemade Oreo fluff is an easy recipe to keep in your back pocket for graduation parties, backyard BBQs, church potlucks, and more!

    Ingredients You’ll Need

    • Oreos – I like to use regular and not double stuffed, so you get more cookie than cream filling when you break up the pieces.
    • Whipped Topping – Regular Cool Whip is what I use but you can also use Extra Creamy Cool Whip for a more luxurious bite.
    • Cream Cheese – Softened to room temperature.
    • Vanilla Extract – I make my own but whatever you prefer to use is fine.
    • Powdered Sugar – To make things a little sweeter.

    Making Oreo Fluff

This is just a brief overview, full instructions can be found in the recipe card below!

    1. Whip the cream cheese. Until light and fluffy, then add the vanilla and powdered sugar.
    2. Add the Cool Whip. And fold it in.
    3. Crumble the cookies. And stir into the whipped topping mixture.
    4. Chill. You can eat this “salad” right away but it’s better when it chills for a bit.
Whip the cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla.
    Mix in the Cool Whip.
    Fold in the crushed cookies.
    Chill before serving.

    Serving and Storing

If you’re running late to a party and need to make a last-minute dish to pass, this is a perfect option (I’m speaking from experience here). You can just mix everything together and go.

However, the fluff does get better when it has time to sit for a bit. The cookies soak up some of the whipped cream cheese mixture and soften.

They even expand and break apart more when scooping and serving. When you first mix this up you’ll notice it looks pretty white and pale, after chilling the cookie pieces become much more pronounced.

Oreo fluff keeps in the fridge for up to 5 days. The longer it’s stored, though, the more the cookies will absorb the moisture taking away a bit of the “fluffy” texture of the fluff.

Oreo Fluff with Cream Cheese and Cool Whip

This Oreo Fluff recipe uses cream cheese and whipped topping to make a silky-smooth base that gets flavored with vanilla before crushed Oreos are folded in. Every spoonful is a delicious bite of cookies and cream goodness!

    Equipment

    • Mixing Bowl
    • Rubber Spatula
    • Hand Mixer

    Ingredients

    • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
    • ¼ cup powdered sugar
    • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
    • 16 ounces whipped topping (1 family-sized tub or 2 regular tubs)
    • 33 Oreo cookies (about one 13.29 ounce package)

    Instructions

    • In a large mixing bowl cream the cream cheese with a hand mixer until it is light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add the powder sugar and vanilla extract, mixing well to combine.
    • Add the whipped topping and mix to incorporate fully (the cream cheese mixture should blend pretty smoothly here, if it’s chunky your cream cheese was too cold).
    • Using clean hands, crush the Oreos over the bowl and gently fold into the fluff.
    • Refrigerate until ready to serve, preferably 4 hours or longer, but the fluff can be enjoyed immediately if pressed for time.

I grew up in the Midwest and still live here. Fluff desserts or "salads" are a staple at family gatherings or potlucks. I sometimes am hesitant to try them because the ingredients are not always identifiable to the eater lol. This one is very tasty and you know what you're getting! It's just a like a bowl of magical Oreo wonderfulness. My kids loved it, so did my husband. It was super easy to make. We used GF Oreos to make it work for everyone in our family. We will be making it again! Thank you Amanda.
